Silence on Racism: Our Children Over Politics- April 30th, 2026

Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco condemns oppression in all its forms.

Adults entrusted with decisions about children must listen, show respect, and provide direct, timely answers with justice and equity at the core.

On April 28, 2026, under Board President Kim’s leadership, the School Board caused harm to children of color and their communities by failing to remove an adult from the boardroom who made racially offensive remarks while continuously recording video. By allowing that person to use harmful language toward one of our students, the Board failed to enforce local and state laws and to protect students’ safety and dignity. We consider this failure a serious violation of social justice.

The Board leadership’s response to racist comments in the boardroom was inadequate and appeared to prioritize politics over law and policy. You have a legal and moral duty to intervene when discrimination or harassment occurs. These actions (and omissions) are examples of systemic institutional oppression and unfair structures that continue to harm our communities.

Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco demands urgent improvement in the Board’s alignment with the district’s declared values and a sharp focus on consistent, accountable equity practices. We will unapologetically interrupt systems of oppression and raise issues in real time before the Board in a spirit of collaboration to improve outcomes for students. We have observed a troubling pattern in how SFUSD handles serious matters affecting communities of color and students with disabilities. This behavior is unacceptable, contradicts the San Francisco Human Rights Commission’s call to confront institutional racism, and does not align with SFUSD’s mission and vision.

We will take organized action to hold SFUSD Board leadership accountable to the communities they serve.

To begin addressing this urgent matter, we demand the following immediate steps:

  • Require the Board and district staff to receive certified training on anti-racist policy and governance, including parliamentary rules and procedures, from a certified expert.

  • Convene consultations with community leaders representing the district’s full diversity of cultures, languages, and religions to participate in drafting a Board resolution on anti-racism and governance.

Now is a critical time for the Board and the community to act together with urgency and resolve. We insist on a clear focus to close gaps, protect vulnerable students, and advance equitable educational outcomes for all San Francisco families.
