Tuesday the SFUSD Board of Education holds a regular meeting.

Board of Education Meeting: Tuesday September 12 @ 6PM in the Board Room at 555 Franklin Street

Agenda for the meeting here

Highlight: Commissioners will vote to approve an MOU between SFUSD and the City and County of San Francisco to clarify roles and responsibilities in the planned development of educator housing at the Francis Scott Key Annex on 43rd Ave.

 Details:

  • The meeting will start with reports from Superintendent Vincent Matthews and student delegates from the Student Advisory Council.
  • Several resolutions updating Board of Education policies will be presented for a "first reading." this means that the policies will not be voted on immediately but will be brought back for discussion and a vote at a subsequent meeting. The resolutions being introduced tonight relate to: 1) rights of students with disabilities who qualify for services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; 2) the legal prohibition on student fees, deposits or other charges for participation in an educational activity, including extracurricular activities; and 3) guidelines for appealing student expulsion decisions in SFUSD

Public Comment

There is always an opportunity for public comment at school board meetings. At regular meetings, speakers may speak to any item being voted on or may give general public comment during the time reserved for "Public Comment on General Matters." Speakers must sign up in advance, either by calling the board office at (415) 241-6493 or filling out a speaker card at the meeting and handing it to Esther Casco, the executive assistant to the board who sits next to the podium. Speaker cards must be turned in before the agenda item being spoken to is officially "called." Members of the public are typically allowed two minutes to speak, but time given may be shorter if there are a large number of speakers.
