Highlights from the Board of Education
A Committee of the Whole was held on January 19, 2021. Committee of the Whole meetings are often used for topics the board wants to take a "deep dive" into or those that would typically be discussed in more than two board committees. The "deep dive" topic at this meeting was reports on and discussions related to the many factors involved in return to in-person learning, as well as supports for students during distance learning. The Board made space to hear from students and community members about a recent incident of racist violence at Lowell HS.
The Board adopted resolutions Reclaiming the American Indian/Alaskan Native Narrative and supporting the renaming of many SFUSD schools.
Updates were shared on progress towards a return to in-person learning and implementation of the equity resolution ethnic studies curriculum.
