PPS-SF Statement Against Racist Violence at Lowell High School

PPS-SF is committed to elevating the voices of families and caregivers to confront racism and advance social justice. It is foundational to our work that students and families feel and are safe within each and every one of our schools and school community spaces, whether they be virtual or physical.

The outright racist, xenophobic and antisemitic acts that took place at Lowell High School are deplorable. And yet we also know that oftentimes less explicit examples of harm and prejudice are commonplace for many students and their families.  We applaud the courageous students, staff, and community members who have come forward to speak out. Your voices are important, your experiences are heard, and we at PPS-SF stand in solidarity with you in condemning the behaviors of that day. We strongly encourage SFUSD to respond with haste and ample resources to not only address the harm that the Lowell community has experienced but to confront and disrupt the underlying biases and practices that contribute to unsafe learning environments for students. Working with students, families/caregivers, and community partners, like Parents for Public Schools -- SF, will be invaluable to a restorative and transformative healing process.
