Why PPS-SF Backs Prop D: Fighting for Our Classrooms

Infographic from Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco titled “4 Practical Use Cases for Supporting Proposition D.” It highlights four benefits of Prop D: securing equitable funding for schools, protecting special education resources, bringing communities together to invest in children, and strengthening public education through stable city funding. The graphic features PPS-SF logos in English, Spanish, Chinese, and a grandparents version on a blue background with yellow and red accents.

At Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco (PPS-SF), our core mission is to promote the fundamental value of public education and pursue the success of every public school. We believe that true equity in education requires stable, robust public funding streams.

Prop D—the Overpaid CEO Tax—safeguards the revenue streams our community relies on by making multi-billion-dollar corporations pay their fair share. For our families, this isn't just about fiscal policy; it’s about protecting critical resources. Budget shortfalls put specialized student programs at risk first. By generating up to $300 million annually for essential city services and care infrastructure, Prop D helps prevent municipal cuts that threaten our most vulnerable children, including those in special education. True parent advocacy means protecting the resources our children deserve to reach their goals so let’s stand together for public education. Dr. Vanessa Marrero, President

That is why we are planning to support Proposition D on the upcoming June 2 ballot, and we want to share why this matters so deeply for our classrooms:

  • Secures Equitable Funding: Prop D forces multi-billion-dollar corporations to pay their fair share. This directly funds the city services and educational infrastructure necessary to close opportunity gaps for vulnerable student. “True equity in our classrooms begins with equity in “the homes of our students. Cuts to healthcare and other essential services provided by the city directly affect families in marginalized communities. By ensuring multi-billion-dollar corporations pay their fair share, Proposition D provides the vital revenue needed to help address systemic opportunity gaps for our most vulnerable students." Noah Sloss

  • Protects Special Education Resources: Stable public funding streams prevent severe municipal budget cuts. This safeguards the specialized classroom services, assistive personnel, and learning aids that allow children with disabilities to thrive and succeed. “When cities face budget shortfalls, specialized programs are often the first to find themselves on the chopping block. Stable public funding streams are a non-negotiable shield that safeguards the classroom services, adaptive technologies, and dedicated support staff our students with disabilities need to thrive.” Brittany Zendejas

  • Bridges Communities for Collective Investment: PPS-SF is dedicated to bridging communities. Backing Prop D brings parents, neighborhood leaders, and local families together to collectively advocate for a fairer, more responsive fiscal landscape that puts children first. “PPS-SF is built on the belief that parent voices are stronger when we stand together. Backing Prop D allows us to bridge local families, neighbors, and advocates into a powerful coalition demanding a fairer, more responsive financial system that structurally prioritizes our youth.” Virginia Cheung

  • Promotes the Value of Public Education: An underfunded city weakens its local schools. Voting for Prop D demands that San Francisco structurally prioritizes its public systems, reinforcing public education as the bedrock of a thriving community. “A city cannot thrive if its public systems are systematically starved of necessary resources. Voting for Prop D is a firm demand that San Francisco treat public education as the absolute bedrock of our community's future workforce and economic health.” Rori Abernethy

True parent advocacy means protecting the resources our children deserve. We encourage you to review the measures, discuss them with your neighbors, and make your voice heard at the ballot box.

Join us in standing up for our schools—vote YES on Prop D by June 2!
