The San Francisco Kindergarten to College (K2C) Program

Kindergarten to College (K2C) "I am the Future" Campaign and Equity Incentive has been Extended!

Guest blog post from Elisa Rodriguez Furey, Community Engagement Specialist at Kindergarten to College

Attention families and students, 1st, 2nd and now 3rd graders at selected schools are eligible for the equity incentive for school year 2021-2022 which offers $150 per student on top of the $50 every SFUSD student gets when their K2C account is opened. Eligible students can earn up to a total of $300 by making two separate contributions of at least $5.

How does this incentive work? When a contribution of at least $5 is made to an eligible student’s K2C account, K2C deposits an additional $150! Altogether, students eligible for the equity incentive could earn over $500 for college. Eligible students should get started and save today to take advantage of this special campaign. We’re off to a great start! There’s plenty of ways we can support our student’s college savings.

How Can K2C help you pay for a Year of College Books?

Do you know the average amount of money a college student spends on books and supplies? College students spend between $600 to $1,000 each year in textbooks and supplies. Let’s assume that your child is a junior student at a SFUSD high school (11th grade), and you just found out that your student has a K2C account to save for college with a $50 initial deposit. If you start saving $30 monthly from now until your student graduates high school, with your savings and the current incentives and scholarships that K2C offers, we could help you accomplish the concrete goal to pay for the first year of college textbooks.

When your 11th grader graduates from high school you will have $1,000 saved for college and will help you pay for the first year of books and supplies!

What is Kindergarten to College?

The City and County of San Francisco’s Kindergarten to College (K2C) program helps families save for college by opening a K2C college savings account at Citibank for every SFUSD new student in grades K-11 (for SY 2021-2022) with an initial $50 deposit.

Families and students can earn incentives when they start making deposits into their K2C accounts. Just by registering online you can get $20 credited to your student account. There are additional incentives and scholarships. Check here for latest incentives.

There are various ways to make a deposit into your K2C accounts. See all the ways here.
