Dr. Matt Wayne to be the New Superintendent Selected for SFUSD

In a letter posted by SFUSD from Jenny Lam and Dr. Matt Wayne, the announcement of Dr. Wayne’s selection for the new Superintendent of SFUSD was released. The current Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews is slated to retire on June 30, 2022 and Dr. Wayne will be taking over his position starting July 1, 2022.

For the past six years, Dr. Wayne has served as the Superintendent for 18,000 students at the Hayward School District, according to SFUSD. Dr. Wayne also previously served as Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services in the district and was an Executive Director of Elementary Schools in SFUSD for two years.

I feel fortunate to be joining a district and community that shares my commitment to social justice and educational equity. For me, leading for equity means that we are learning what each student needs to be successful and then determining how to provide that support at every school and in every classroom.
— Dr. Wayne told SFUSD

The selection for the new SFUSD Superintendent was long and robust— with 64 community listening sessions along with an online community survey accompanied with the sessions. The community members, parents and everyone else who provided their input really assisted SFUSD in their selection for the right person that will fit SFUSD’s needs.
