Short bio of Naomi’s background and experience: Naomi is a product of San Francisco Unified School District, and now an undergraduate student at UC Santa Cruz where she studies psychology, feminist studies, and education.

Why she chooses to do this work: She is passionate about understanding human behavior to improve the well-being of communities in the larger effort to create a more just society. Growing up, she was keenly aware of the injustices that exist within the school walls as well as the self-segregation that is well alive within SFUSD as a whole.

What will Naomi be doing this summer? Over the course of the summer, she will create a guide for parents to help them make school choice decisions based on other criteria than test scores or reputations amongst their community. The guide will assist parents in thinking through their values around parenting, education, and schools, and considering many attributes present in schools that may help them make school choices that align with these values.

Naomi would like to talk to any parent/caregiver for an interview about what factors they consider when making choices about schools for their children. You can reach Naomi at her email naomi@ppssf.org or by phone at 415-713-7752.
