  • The committee reviewed SFUSD’s student assignment policy and focused on Board Resolution 189-25A1

  • Board Resolution 189-25A1 involves developing a Community Based Student Assignment System for SFUSD.

  • Meeting included presentations on African American Student Recruitment and Increasing Enrollment at Under Enrolled Schools, Transportation, and the Policy Development Timeline

Board Meeting: Tuesday, May 14 at 6:00PM  at 555 Franklin Street.

  • The Board will honor the Mission High School Varsity Soccer team who recently won the Northern California Regional Division V Championship

  • They will also give the Recognizing All Valuable Employees ("RAVE") Awards

  • The Board will hear several proposals for action which will include changes to bullying policies and new baselines for grade promotion, acceleration, and retention

  • There will be a special order of business which will involve approving an application for a waiver to avoid a loss of revenue due to an Instructional Minute Penalty

    • Abraham Lincoln High School’s instructional calendar for the 2016-2017 school year fell 519 minutes and 3 days short of the required minimums. This has led to a $3.3 million penalty imposed against the entire 9-12 grade span of SFUSD.

  • The Board will hear a presentation on Spark* SF Public Schools, a group that focuses on building private partnerships to support SFUSD. The presentation can be found here.

Public Comment

There is always an opportunity for public comment at school board meetings.

At regular meetings, speakers may speak to any item being voted on or may give general public comment during the time reserved for "Public Comment on General Matters." This item has recently been moved earlier on the agenda, so if you wish to speak, make sure you arrive by 6PM! Speakers must sign up in advance, either by calling the board office at (415) 241-6493 or filling out a speaker card at the meeting and handing it to Esther Casco, the executive assistant to the board, who sits next to the podium. Speaker cards must be turned in before the agenda item being spoken to is officially "called."

At committee meetings, those wishing to speak may sign up in advance or simply approach the podium when the committee chair calls for public comment.

Members of the public are typically allowed two minutes to speak, but the time given may be shorter if there are a large number of speakers.
