PPS-SF Welcomes New Board President Sarah Ballard-Hanson

We are so happy to announce current PPS-SF Board Vice-President Sarah Ballard-Hanson as our new Board President!

Sarah Ballard-Hanson holds significant experience in the fields of teacher preparation and youth and family programming. Sarah is the Senior Director of Community Schools & Youth and Teen Services for the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA and was recently appointed to SFUSD’s Public Education Enrichment Fund Community Advisory Committee (PEEF CAC) by School Board Commissioner Faauuga Moliga.

Sarah is passionate about supporting schools in implementing a community school strategy. This strategy makes it explicit that in order to significantly improve the academic and developmental outcomes of young people, schools and community partners - e.g. families, community and other organizations, local government, higher education, public agencies, law enforcement and others - must work together so all students have an equitable opportunity to learn and thrive. Prior to her current role, Sarah was the Director of the Bayview Beacon Center, the Director of Education for the Jamestown Community Center in the Mission District and a Spanish teacher at Raoul Wallenberg and Balboa High Schools. Sarah holds a dual BA in International Relations and Latin American Studies and a MA in Education and Teaching. In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her friends and family, doing yoga, and being outside.
