Upcoming Board of Education Meetings
Tuesday is the last regular board meeting of the year for the SFUSD Board of Education.
Regular Board of Education Meeting: Tuesday December 12 @ 6pm in the Board Room at 555 Franklin.
Agenda for the meeting here
Topics to be discussed include:
Parent Advisory Council report
A vote on two resolutions proposed by board members
A resolution proposed by Commissioner Haney supporting the needs of homeless children, youth and families in SFUSD. This resolution was reviewed in two board committee meetings and forwarded with positive recommendation by general consent (all committee members agreed). Some amendments have been included in the version being voted on tonight. There will be an opportunity for commissioners to discuss the resolution and for public comment. Read the resolution here.
A resolution proposed by Commissioners Mark Sanchez and Stevon Cook to further reduce assessments. This resolution was amended from its original version and forwarded from the Curriculum and Program Committee with a positive recommendation. It would require a committee of District staff, teacher's union representatives and parents/community members to meet and make a recommendation by the end of the school year as to which of existing assessments should be mandatory. This resolution only applies to district mandated assessments, not state assessments like the SBAC. Read the resolution here.
Approval of tentative agreements with UESF (teacher and paraprofessional unions)
Introduction and vote on the proposed instructional calendar for 2018-19 school year.
Approval of all of the school Balanced Scorecards
Vote to appoint members to the Career Technical Education Advisory Committee
Vote to approve a compensation philosophy and salary increases for unrepresented, confidential and management employees
Discussion of the district's annual report on English Learners required by the Lau consent decree
Report on SFUSD's "local indicators" for the California Dashboard - a public source of comparative school data kept by the state department of education. Here is a link to the California Dashboard page for San Francisco Unified School District.
There is always an opportunity for public comment at school board meetings. At regular meetings, speakers may speak to any item being voted on or may give general public comment during the time reserved for "Public Comment on General Matters." Speakers must sign up in advance, either by calling the board office at (415) 241-6493 or filling out a speaker card at the meeting and handing it to Esther Casco, the executive assistant to the board who sits next to the podium. Speaker cards must be turned in before the agenda item being spoken to is officially "called." Members of the public are typically allowed two minutes to speak, but time given may be shorter if there are a large number of speakers.
