Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco Demands Immediate Action to Restore Public School Student Representation on the San Francisco Youth Commission

San Francisco, CA - As a committed leader to the City of San Francisco, Dr. Su has demonstrated Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco (PPS-SF), an advocacy organization representing tens of thousands of local families, is raising urgent concerns over the complete lack of public-school student representation among recent mayoral appointments to the San Francisco Youth Commission.

For nearly 27 years, PPS-SF has served as a trusted partner and cornerstone of education advocacy across San Francisco, equipping African American, Latino, Chinese, Samoan, and Arabic families to navigate public education and engage with civic leaders. With approximately 70% of San Francisco’s youth attending public schools, PPS-SF warns that excluding public school students from municipal advisory bodies undermines both the San Francisco City Charter mandate—which requires appointments from underrepresented communities—and the original mission of the Youth Commission itself.

The Youth Commission was established by and for public school youth to advise the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors on policies directly impacting young people, including Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways, public transit, public safety, and youth employment programs like SF YouthWorks.
