Summer Steps for SFUSD Enrollment
Round 2 Assignments and Registration.
If you submitted a Round 2 application by the April deadline, EPC will mail you the results in mid-May. If you received an assignment to one of your choices, you have approximately two weeks from the date the letters are mailed out to register at your newly assigned school. You must register at your newly assigned school to confirm your placement.

Wait Pool Application
To continue in the process for the wait pool rounds (Round 3 and 4), submit a wait pool application for only one school of your choice. The application has to be submitted in person at the Educational Placement Center (EPC) at 555 Franklin St, Room 100. The first wait pool assignment letters will be mailed on the third week of June.
If you submitted a Wait Pool Form by the June deadline, and did not receive an assignment to your wait pool school, your application stays active throughout Round 4 unless you notify the EPC that you would like to change your wait pool school or cancel your request.
You may join the wait pool at any point, but you may only receive one assignment through the wait pool process. If you receive an assignment in Round 3, then you may not submit another request for Round 4.
If you would like to change your existing wait pool request, you may do so in person or by sending an email to email@example.com by the deadline. Note that if you wait until the last minute, it is recommended to go in person to ensure that the request is received in time.

Wait pool numbers will be posted on the SFUSD website on assigned dates once each month. Checking these numbers may help you decide whether to keep your request active or switch your wait pool request to another school with a smaller wait pool.
With each round of the wait pool process, all families who apply will be notified by mail whether or not they receive new assignments.
Round 4 notifications will occur during the last week of August and in early September. For this round only, families receiving assignments will often be notified by phone/at the school they have been attending before their letter arrives. The assignment is effective immediately because the school year has already started. There is no option to stay at your current school if you receive a new assignment to your wait pool school. Please remember to cancel your wait pool application by the deadline if you wish to stay at your current assigned school.
All four rounds of the enrollment process use the same tie-breaker and lottery system to assign available seats.
Available Schools Assignment Period
The Available Schools Assignment Period typically starts the third week of June and lasts until the end of August. This process is usually used by families who have no assignment in SFUSD either because 1) they have did not register for their assignment from the earlier placement rounds, or 2) they are only just starting the enrollment process (e.g. families moving into the city, late applications). Families have also used this process to swap their assigned school from Round 1 or 2. You may participate in both the Available School Assignment Period and the wait pool process. Keep in mind that any of the highly requested programs and/or schools are not going to be available through this process.
Students may be assigned immediately into any school with available seats and no wait pool requests. These seats are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Availability may change frequently, so the information is not published and is only available in person at the EPC. If you select a school assignment through this process, this assignment replaces any school that you registered for in Rounds 1 or 2. You may still participate in the wait pool for Round 4. If you selected a school through this process, and later receive a Round 4 wait pool assignment, the wait pool assignment will replace the current school.
Options to Transfer After All Placement Rounds Have Ended
The No Transfer Period usually begins after the third week of school. After that point, your next chance to change your school assignment is the Spring Transfer Process. You would apply by mid-November to transfer to a new school for the spring semester which starts in January.
