A San Francisco native, Teresa Arriaga brings a strong background in nonprofit management and community leadership.

"We are so pleased to welcome Teresa, and believe she is the leader to take PPS-SF into our future vision for strong public schools that strengthen our city,” says Amie Latterman, president of the PPS-SF Board of Directors.

Ms. Arriaga served for six years as the executive director of the nonprofit Seven Tepees Youth Program, setting a vision for comprehensive youth development and college access for low-income youth. Prior to that, she worked at the University of California, Berkeley, where she was Director of the Early Academic Outreach Program, which prepared middle and high school students for college acceptance and persistence.

I am thrilled to join PPS-SF after using them as both a personal and professional resource for many years. I am excited to work with PPS-SF in support of parents and schools, as I firmly believe strong public schools are critical to the success of our democracy.

Teresa Arriaga grew up in San Francisco and earned an undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s College of California. She will be awarded her master’s degree in public administration from San Francisco State University this year. She is also a parent in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD).

PPS-SF began a rigorous search for a new executive director after the departure of former Executive Director Masharika Prejean Maddison in September 2016. Since that time, the organization has been led by Annie Bauccio in the role of interim executive director.

“PPS-SF is at an exciting inflection point, with a dedicated and knowledgeable staff ready to support our new ED in realizing the vision of a San Francisco where every citizen is invested in the success of every public school. I’m thrilled that Teresa will be bringing her years of expertise to lead this effort and look forward to handing her the reins,” says Annie Bauccio.

Ms. Arriaga will begin her new role at PPS-SF on April 25, 2017. She will be in attendance at the PPS-SF Annual General Meeting on “The Future of Public Education” on April 26, 2017, from 6pm to 7:30pm at the San Francisco Main Library, Koret Room. The public is invited to attend the meeting to help welcome the new executive director.
