Prop A: Quality Teacher and Education Act

The PPS Board of Directors voted on February 18, 2008 to endorse the Quality Teacher and Education Act for the June 2008 election. We as an organization believe strongly that every child deserves a quality teacher -- and every teacher deserves a living wage.

Now we're forming our mobilization committee, and need volunteers to help us display window signs and get the word out to parents! Ways to help:

  • Display a window sign, and distribute signs to other parents at your school, your friends and your neighbors! We've organized distribution points around the City where you can pick up signs. Email rpnorton@hotmail.com to find a distribution point near you.

  • Make sure information about Prop A gets to parents at your school.
  • Sign up to participate in a phone bank.
Phone bank with teachers from your school at the UESF offices – Phone banks are held every M-Th evening from 5- 7:30 p.m. and the more the merrier! Please contact Katie Pulaski  at kpulaski.schools@whitehurstcampaigns.com  if you can arrange a parent/teacher phone bank for your school.
Phone Banking Nights, 5:00-7:30pm at UESF Offices, 2310 Mason St.

  • Walk precincts on a Saturday morning!
There are precinct walks every Saturday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. Report to Civic Center Secondary (formerly John Swett Elementary) at 727 Golden Gate Ave. near Franklin St. to pick up walking materials; no experience necessary!

Walking a precinct usually takes about 2 hours. Precinct walking is a great way to contact voters who will support this measure but may not be aware there is an election. Again, coordinating with teachers from your school is a great way to support this measure and build community between parents and teachers.

  • Donate! If you can only do one thing, make a donation! Go to http://www.voteyesonpropa.com/contribute-prop-a.html and click "Contribute Now!"
