English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

Each school with 21 or more students of limited English proficiency in attendance, regardless of language, must form a functioning English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC).

The ELAC advises the School Site Council and helps the school principal and staff understand the needs of English Learner (EL) students. ELAC is a committee of parents and staff members.

Parents for Public Schools sponsors ELAC made EASY workshops in Spanish and Chinese. All parents, whether they serve on their school’s ELAC or not, are welcome and encouraged to learn the basic role and responsibility of an effective ELAC:
