California Budget Crisis: PPS Call to Action

Currently, California's per-pupil spending is one of the lowest in the nation. SFUSD is already operating under a lean budget. In spite of the inadequate funding, San Francisco's public schools have been making progress - overall reading scores are up 25 percent, math scores have increased 17 percent in the last four years, and for the first time in years, district enrollment has begun to increase.

It's never been clearer than now that our representatives need a stronger push to stand up for schools. Get involved at all levels - local, state and national - to ask our elected officials to support public education. Rainy Day Funds

The City of San Francisco may provide a temporary fix by releasing Rainy Day Funds from a reserve that was set up by Supervisor Tom Ammiano. The estimated amount that the Rainy Day fund could supply to the school district is up to $19.7 million, depending on the final decision by the Governor's office on budget cuts.

Proposition H

Plans to allocate the third-third of Prop H money are currently on hold until the budget impact of State budget cuts is finalized. Some of this money may be used to alleviate the impact of the State budget cuts, instead of spending it on other proposals.
