PPS-SF Honorees

Un Un Che was among the first graduates of PPS’s Next Steps Training program nearly five years ago and has since promoted and assisted with PPS parent trainings, enrollment workshops, working at outreach events, and coaching and being a role model to other parents.  Un Un is being honored today for her tireless efforts and dedication to helping immigrant children and families, being an active parent in her children’s schools and in the Chinese community.   She is a member of ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee), DELAC (District English Learner Advisory Committee), and PAC (Parent Advisory Council).  Un Un immediately stepped in and filled in the gaps for PPS when our Chinese Outreach Coordinator was on medical leave, providing advice, assisting or leading workshops, and ensuring PPS presence in the community.  Un Un Che is the mother of two students at John Yehall Chin and a preschooler.

Daphne Magnawa, a kindergarten parent at Daniel Webster Elementary School, volunteered her time this spring leading, coordinating and facilitating the Middle School Community Forums.  The Middle School Forums required a significant amount of resources to accomplish effectively.  Daphne helped in this effort by coordinating with principals to manage all the details of each event.  She documented and sorted all the comments about middle schools on our list serve, and she sat on the committee which outlined the report of findings and recommendations.  We are deeply grateful to Daphne for volunteering her time on this project and taking a lead role from beginning to end!

Rich Shrieve has been on the PPS-SF Board of Directors since 2007 and has served as Treasurer since 2008. In addition to Rich’s contribution as a volunteer board member, he envisioned and championed the PPS-SF School Governance for Parents Project. Now that his kids are grown and are in college, Rich has decided to cycle off the Board at Parents for Public School. We are grateful to him for all he has done for public school parents even beyond his service to PPS
