PPSSF Board & Staff

PPS-SF Board of Directors

The all-volunteer PPS-SF Board meets monthly and is elected for two-year terms by the membership at our Annual Meeting.

Board Chair: Matthew Kelemen
Matthew is the parent of two children, who are students at Buena Vista Elementary, where Matthew is on the School Site Council. He is also on the Board of Partners in School Innovation, a school reform organization working to close the achievement gap (the disparity in academic performance between groups of students.) He is an independent consultant working in K-12 education policy. Previously, Matthew served as Senior Program Officer for Youth at The James Irvine Foundation and, before that, spent five years on the senior staff of SFUSD, overseeing local governmental affairs and managing several departments. He launched and spearheaded policy initiatives and long-range planning efforts focused on high school reform, principal leadership development, increasing overall enrollment and building the capacity of School site Councils. He holds a PhD in Education from Stanford University.
Vice President: Mario Paz
Mario is the Executive Director of the Good Samaritan Family Resource Center in San Francisco and has been a passionate nonprofit and public service leader and advocate for children, youth, families and communities for more than 20 years.  He has worked as an organizer, counselor, director, consultant, policy advisor and foundation program officer.  He has served on numerous boards of directors and received recognition and awards for his work from several communities and foundations including Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families, Stanford’s Haas Center for Public Service leadership award and for his achievement in creating a nonprofit community resource center in East Palo Alto. Mario, together with his wife Ruth, are dedicated and loving parents of three children Monica, Isela and Daniel.  Mario holds an MA in public administration from Cal-State Hayward and a BA in Political Science from Golden Gate University. 
Secretary: Jean Field

Jean is an attorney and a parent of a child at McKinley Elementary School and a child at Aptos Middle School.  In addition to her work as an attorney, she has worked in public-interest communications and journalism.  She is active in her school's onsite after-school program and volunteered as a PPS School Ambassador before joining the PPS-SF Board.

Treasurer: Amie Latterman

Amie Latterman is parent to two preschool age children and will start the enrollment process in fall 2011 for Kindergarten. Her background is in fundraising, marketing/outreach, event planning and communications for nonprofit organizations. She is currently the development director for San Francisco Planning and Urban Research (SPUR), responsible for all annual fundraising. Prior to joining SPUR, she worked as the outreach director for Child Family Health International, a social enterprise, nonprofit organization in San Francisco. In addition, Amie spent several years in the field of Japan-U.S. relations. She earned her Bachelor's degree in political science from Boston College. Amie was a founding board member of the national Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN), and spent several years on the advisory board of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of YNPN. In her free time she enjoys hiking with her family in the Bay Area hills, traveling and exploring San Francisco neighborhoods for great places to eat.

Board Member: John Perry
John is the parent of a fourth grader and an  incoming Kindergartner.  He earned two masters degrees in English literature from Rutgers University and Stanford University and taught for several years at the university level, at City College of San Francisco, and in Upward Bound and other programs helping high school students prepare for college. For the past twelve years, John has worked in marketing and corporate communications for technology firms in Silicon Valley.
Board Member: Hollis Pierce
Hollis is the proud parent of a graduating daughter who attends the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts (SOTA) High School in San Francisco.  As a SOTA representative, Hollis has been instrumental in outreaching to students of Kipp Academy as well as actively championing the concerns of African American families at both high schools residing on the Eugene McAteer Campus:  SOTA and the Academy of Arts and Technology.  She is a product of San Francisco public schools and a strong advocate for equity in education.  Hollis Pierce & Associates provides educational consulting in student achievement, teaching & its impact on learning, leadership/management and learning communities. Hollis is a Certified Life Coach and is currently engaged in parent advocacy and empowerment around equitable access to quality education for all children.  She holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley, [Political Science]; M.Ed. from DePaul University [Curriculum Development] and an Ed.D. in Organization & Leadership from the University of San Francisco.
Board Member: Shamann Walton
Shamann, a native of San Francisco, attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon graduating from Morris Brown College (Cum Laude) with a BA in Political Science, he came back to his roots in Vallejo and began working at the Boys and Girls Club. He began to develop a rapport with various school districts and eventually started teaching for the Solano County Office of Education. He eventually entered into the family support field and became the Director of the Economic Opportunity Council of San Francisco’s Potrero Hill Family Resource Center (PHFRC). After serving as the director for the PHFRC he became a program officer for the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF). He is now currently the Executive Director of Young Community Developers, Inc. (a workforce development agency located in San Francisco’s Bayview Hunters Point Community), where he manages, develops and implements job readiness training, job placement and barrier mitigation services for participants. He is a proud father of two (Daughter-Monique and Son-Malcolm).

 

Meet Our Staff

PPS-SF provides outreach and support to parents in communities throughout San Francisco.

Annie

Annie Bauccio Moore, Interim Executive Director, became PPS-SF Interim Executive Director in November 2011. Before moving to this position to lead the transition team and executive director search she served as a PPS-SF Board Member. Annie is the parent of three children attending public schools in San Francisco.  Annie is active on the PTA board and has served as VP for Development and Legislative Chair as well as volunteering as a PPS-SF Parent Ambassador and Recruiting Committee member.  She holds a BA in English from Saint Mary's College of CA, with a concentration in American Literature and Poetry. She holds a certificate in Human Resources Management, and has participated in volunteer activities with neighborhood associations in Bernal Heights and the Inner Sunset. In addition to owning a small business as a Professional Organizer, Annie is a Co-Founder and Board Member of Educate Our State, the parent-led campaign to improve the quality of education for all of California's children. 

vicki

Vicki Symonds, Communications and Operations Manager, joined PPS-SF in 2007. Before becoming the Communications and Operations Manager Vicki was program manager of the Go Public! program at PPS-SFhelping parents navigate the enrollment process. Prior to her work at PPS Vicki worked for 12 years in Marketing and Communications for Hewlett Packard and non-profit organizations. She is a parent of a daughter at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts High School and of a recent public school graduate currently attending college.  Vicki has been an active volunteer serving on the San Francisco PTA Executive Board,  as PTA President of Aptos Middle School, and more recently as the Parent coordinator for the SOTA dance department.  Vicki has her BA from the University of California Santa Cruz and an MBA from San Francisco State University.

carol

Carol Lei, Program Manager, is bi-lingual in English and Chinese and a long time PPS-SF Member, Ambassador and Enrollment Coach.  Carol previously served as the Mandarin Immersion Coordinator for SFUSD and an advocate for second language acquisition.  She is a parent of both an elementary and a middle school student in SFUSD, where she is active on School Site Councils, ELACs, being a room parent, and in leading school tours.  She has a career background in Information Technology marketing, leadership and team development, diversity training, and running a small management consulting business. She received her business degree from UC Berkeley

cindy

Cindy Choy, Community Outreach Coordinator - Chinese Community, had led PPS-SF’s outreach with Chinese-speaking parents since November 2005.  Cindy has been a member of the Parent Advisory Council to the Board of Education, Secretary of the District ELAC, and member of the Chinese for Affirmative Action Visitation Valley Parents Group. She is currently co-president of the Bi-lingual Community Council.  Originally from Hong Kong, Cindy is a parent at Gallileo High School and a former parent at El Dorado Elementary School and Hoover Middle School.

daisy

Daisy Hernandez, Community Outreach Coordinator - Latino Community, has spearheaded PPS-SF’s successful outreach program with Spanish-speaking parents since October 2005.  Originally from El Salvador, Daisy served on the English Learner Advisory Committee and School Site Council at James Lick Middle School.  Daisy’s son graduated from Gateway High School in 2010. Daisy serves on the San Francisco Unified DELAC.

Jamilah

Jamilah Campbell Sanchez, Project Manager, is bi-lingual in English and Spanish and is a parent of a pre-schooler. She joined PPS-SF as its Project Manager in April 2011 to oversee the PPS-SF School Governance for Parents initiative.  Jamilah has over 11 years experience working at SFUSD, most recently as a Literacy Specialist at Paul Revere K-8 and as a Special Education Teacher/Afterschool Director at Cesar Chavez Elementary School.  Jamilah has a Bachelors degree in Human Ecology and Philosophy of Education and a Masters degree in International Educational Development in Policy.

kellyn

Kellyn Dong, Administrative Assistant, joined PPS-SF in 2010.  A parent of a child at Jose Ortega’s Mandarin Immersion School, Kellyn knows first-hand about parent engagement – she has chaired six fundraisers at her school in two years, has helped to market her school to prospective parents, and helped to build leadership by forming a parent language support council.  Before joining the staff of PPS- SF, Kellyn worked in real estate, media and high technology.  She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Santa Clara University.
